Maturity Value Calculator FAQ
What formula does the maturity value calculator use?
The principal grows as P × (1 + r/n)^(n t). Recurring deposits use the ordinary annuity formula with the contribution frequency you select.
Does monthly compounding change the answer much?
Yes, especially over long terms. More frequent compounding earns interest on interest sooner, so daily compounding finishes slightly above annual compounding at the same nominal rate.
How are additional contributions treated?
Each contribution is assumed to arrive at the end of its period and then compounds at the contribution frequency. A blank contribution field is treated as zero.
Should I enter APR or APY?
Enter the nominal annual rate that matches the compounding choice. If you only have APY, understand that APY already includes compounding and may not need an extra daily setting.
Are taxes and penalties included?
No. The interest-earned figure is pre-tax and ignores early-withdrawal penalties. Confirm taxable interest and account rules with the institution or a tax professional.
