How to calculate concrete
- Measure the inside length and width of the forms in feet.
- Enter the average concrete depth in inches after allowing for base variation.

One cubic yard contains 27 cubic feet. Divide cubic feet by 27 to convert a slab estimate into the unit commonly used by ready-mix suppliers.
How much extra concrete should I order?
Five to ten percent is common for straightforward work, depending on measurement certainty and subgrade quality. Irregular excavations, pumping, or difficult access may justify a larger allowance.
How many bags of concrete do I need?
Divide the required cubic feet including waste by the yield stated on one bag and round upward. Check the exact product because bag weights and yields differ.
What depth should a concrete slab be?
Depth depends on loading, soil, reinforcement, climate, and local requirements. Four inches is common for some pedestrian slabs, but vehicle and structural work may require a specifically engineered section.
How do I calculate an irregular slab?
Break the plan into rectangles or other simple shapes and calculate each volume separately. Add those volumes before applying a project-wide waste allowance.
