About concrete weight

Concrete weight is estimated by multiplying geometric volume by density. For a rectangular slab or block, volume is length times width times height. For a solid cylinder, volume is pi times diameter squared divided by four, multiplied by height. This calculator accepts dimensions in feet, so the direct volume result is cubic feet. It then multiplies that volume by density in pounds per cubic foot and converts the same mass to US tons and kilograms. Normal-weight concrete is often approximated between 140 and 150 pounds per cubic foot, and 145 pounds per cubic foot is a useful general planning value. Actual density varies with aggregate type, mix proportions, air content, moisture, reinforcement, and curing. Lightweight structural concrete can be significantly less dense, while heavyweight shielding mixes can be much denser. Use a project specification, batch ticket, supplier data, or measured density whenever lifting, transport, demolition, or structural load decisions depend on the answer. The calculated weight represents concrete only. Reinforcing bars, welded wire reinforcement, embedded plates, anchors, finishes, soil, forms, and attached equipment are not included. A reinforced element can weigh noticeably more than an unreinforced geometric estimate. Existing concrete may also retain water or contain unknown inclusions. When planning a crane pick or equipment capacity, use professionally established weights and the required safety factors rather than treating a nominal density estimate as exact. Dimensions should describe the actual concrete shape. Convert inches to feet before entry, such as using 0.5 foot for a six-inch slab. Break irregular structures into simple blocks and cylinders, calculate each separately, and add their results. Subtract openings only when their dimensions are known and appropriate. The tool can support material handling, trucking, foundation-load checks, and demolition planning, but it does not perform structural design.
