How is asphalt tonnage calculated?
The calculator multiplies area by compacted depth to find cubic feet, then multiplies by density. Pounds are divided by 2,000 to produce US short tons.
What asphalt density should I use?
A planning value near 145 pounds per cubic foot is common for compacted hot mix. Your producer's mix-specific density is more accurate and should be used for ordering.
Should I add extra asphalt?
Usually, because field dimensions, grades, and handling are not perfect. Ask the contractor or supplier for an allowance suited to the job rather than relying on a fixed universal factor.
Does the cost include labor and delivery?
No, the displayed cost is tonnage multiplied only by the entered material price. Add freight, equipment, labor, base preparation, taxes, and other quoted charges separately.
Can this calculator determine pavement thickness?
No, it estimates material from a thickness you already selected. Traffic loading, soil, climate, drainage, and local standards must inform structural pavement design.
