About the paver calculator
A paver calculator estimates how many rectangular paving units are needed to cover a rectangular project area. It multiplies the project length and width to find square meters, converts each paver dimension from millimeters to meters, and divides the project area by the face area of one paver. The selected waste percentage is then added and the final quantity is rounded up to a whole unit. This produces a practical ordering count for patios, paths, simple driveways, shed bases, and landscape borders.
The calculation assumes that the entered paver dimensions represent the installed module. Some paving systems are specified by their nominal size, which may include the intended joint, while others list the exact concrete or clay unit dimensions. Small joints repeated across a large surface can change the count. Consult the product data and use the module dimension recommended by the supplier when available. Spacer nibs, laying patterns, and edge restraints may also affect actual spacing.
Waste covers cutting, breakage, chipped units, pattern alignment, color sorting, and a small reserve for future repairs. Five percent may suit a simple rectangular area with a straight running bond, while ten percent is a common planning allowance for more cutting. Curves, diagonals, herringbone layouts, small borders, and complicated interruptions can require a larger allowance. Expensive or special-order batches deserve careful layout planning because a later production run may vary in color.
Measure the paved footprint rather than the excavation unless both are identical. Divide irregular sites into rectangles, calculate each rectangle, and add the areas before determining the order. Subtract large unpaved features such as planting beds or permanent structures. Do not subtract tiny penetrations automatically because the surrounding cuts may consume at least as much material as the omitted area.
This tool estimates paving units only. A complete installation may also need compacted sub-base aggregate, bedding sand or mortar, jointing material, geotextile, drainage components, and edge restraints. Their quantities depend on depth, specification, soil, loading, and local construction practice. Confirm pallet quantities and minimum orders with the supplier, then round the calculated count up to complete packs when necessary. Check dimensional tolerances and lay a trial section before committing to the full pattern.

Does the count include waste?
Yes, the calculator increases the base quantity by the percentage entered. It then rounds upward because partial pavers cannot be ordered as whole units.
What waste allowance should I use?
Simple rectangular layouts often use five to ten percent. Diagonal patterns, curves, borders, and many obstacles usually need a larger allowance.
Should I include the joint in paver size?
Use the manufacturer's installed module when one is specified because it normally accounts for the joint. Otherwise, verify whether the listed dimensions are nominal or actual before ordering.
Can I calculate an irregular patio?
Split the plan into rectangles and add their areas, or calculate each section separately and add the quantities. Allow extra waste where curved boundaries create many cuts.
Does this estimate base and bedding materials?
No, the result is the paver count only. Base aggregate, bedding, jointing material, drainage, and restraints require separate depth-based estimates.
