No, the calculation assumes a completely solid rectangular plate. Subtract the mass of removed geometry or use CAD mass properties for complex parts.
Why might a supplier's listed weight differ?
Suppliers may use nominal dimensions, standard theoretical tables, grade-specific density, or measured scale weight. Manufacturing thickness tolerances also create normal differences.
Can this result be used for lifting design?
It can support an early estimate but should not be the only lifting input. Confirm actual weight and include attachments, rigging, dynamic effects, and required safety factors.
