Boiler size FAQ
Is this a replacement for a heat-loss calculation?
No. It is a preliminary area-based estimate, while a professional heat-loss calculation evaluates construction details, weather, infiltration, and every room.
Why does insulation affect boiler capacity?
Insulation slows heat transfer through walls, roofs, and floors. Better insulation therefore reduces the rate of heat that the boiler must replace.
Should I choose the next larger boiler?
Choose equipment that covers the verified design load without excessive oversizing. A substantially oversized boiler may short-cycle and operate less efficiently.
Does the result include domestic hot water?
The result estimates space-heating demand only. An indirect water heater or combi boiler may require additional capacity based on hot-water usage and recovery needs.
What area should I enter?
Enter the conditioned floor area served by the boiler. Do not include garages or other spaces that are not intentionally heated.
