Why is diameter squared divided by 162?
The relationship approximates the mass of a circular steel bar from its cross-sectional area and density. It is a convenient metric estimating formula for diameter in millimeters and weight in kilograms per meter.
Does the estimate include lap splices and hooks?
Only if those lengths are included in the entered length per piece. Use detailed cut lengths from the bar schedule rather than clear member dimensions.
Will actual delivered weight match exactly?
Actual weight can differ because nominal standards and manufacturing tolerances apply. Supplier mass tables and weighbridge records should govern purchasing and payment.
Can this calculator choose the correct rebar size?
No. Bar size, grade, spacing, cover, and anchorage must come from a qualified structural design and approved drawings.
What costs are excluded?
The result multiplies steel weight by the entered material rate only. Fabrication, couplers, tie wire, chairs, labor, equipment, taxes, waste, and delivery may need separate allowances.
