About the NLR calculator

The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, usually shortened to NLR, is a simple value derived from a complete blood count with differential. Neutrophils are white blood cells involved in the early response to infection, tissue injury, and inflammation. Lymphocytes support adaptive immune responses, including antibody production and targeted cellular immunity. Dividing the neutrophil count by the lymphocyte count combines these two parts of the immune response into one convenient marker. This calculator accepts differential percentages because they are commonly printed on laboratory reports. The NLR is the neutrophil percentage divided by the lymphocyte percentage; the total white blood cell count cancels from that ratio. What is the formula for NLR?

NLR equals the neutrophil count divided by the lymphocyte count. When both are supplied as percentages from the same sample, simply divide the two percentages because the total WBC factor cancels.

What is a normal NLR?

There is no single universal reference interval for every clinical purpose. Healthy adult values are often near 1 to 3, but laboratories, populations, age, and medical circumstances can shift the expected range.

Does a high NLR diagnose inflammation or cancer?
