How to calculate hole volume
- Measure the finished hole diameter in inches.
- Measure vertical depth in feet.
- Enter the number of holes with those same dimensions.
- Calculate the combined cylindrical volume.
- Add a field allowance and round to the material package or delivery increment.

What formula does the calculator use?
It uses pi times radius squared times depth for each cylindrical hole. The result is multiplied by the number of equal holes.
How many cubic feet are in a cubic yard?
There are twenty-seven cubic feet in one cubic yard. Ready-mix concrete orders are commonly quoted in cubic yards.
Does a post reduce concrete volume?
Yes, an embedded solid post displaces concrete. Subtract the submerged post volume when that difference is important.
How should I handle a bell-shaped footing?
Calculate the shaft and enlarged base as separate geometric sections, then add them. A cylinder-only estimate will understate a flared base.
Should I order exactly the calculated amount?
Usually not, because excavations are irregular and some material is lost in handling. Add a suitable allowance and respect supplier minimums.
