How to estimate tile grout
- Measure the net area that will receive tile.
- Enter the actual tile length and width.
- Measure the planned joint width and effective joint depth.
- Enter a product density or use the planning value.
- Calculate, then round up to complete manufacturer packages.

Why do small tiles need more grout?
Small tiles create more linear joint length across the same floor area. More joint space means a larger cavity to fill.
Is nominal tile size accurate enough?
Nominal and actual dimensions can differ. Measuring the tile gives a more reliable estimate, especially over a large installation.
Does this calculator include waste?
The geometric result does not add a separate waste percentage. Round up for mixing residue, washing loss, touch-ups, and package size.
Can I use this for epoxy grout?
The geometry still estimates joint volume. Use the epoxy manufacturer's density and coverage data because its yield can differ from cement grout.
Should movement joints be included?
No, movement joints are generally filled with an appropriate flexible sealant. Subtract or separately account for those joints when precision matters.
