Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between molarity and molality?
Molarity uses liters of final solution, whereas molality uses kilograms of solvent. Molality is not affected by temperature-driven volume changes.
How is mass percent calculated?
Divide solute mass by total solution mass and multiply by one hundred. Both masses must use the same unit.
Is ppm always equal to mg/L?
They are approximately equal for dilute water solutions with density near one kilogram per liter. Use density conversion for other solutions or precise work.
Why does molarity require molar mass?
The calculator converts the entered solute mass into moles using molar mass. Molarity is then moles divided by liters of final solution.
Should I use solvent volume or final solution volume?
Molarity and volume percentages use final solution volume. Adding a stated volume of solvent may produce a different final volume after mixing.
