Why does hexagonal spacing fit more trees?
Offset rows pack equal spacing more efficiently than square cells. The standard hexagonal cell uses about 86.6 percent of the corresponding rectangular area.
Does the total include roads and headlands?
No, the calculation assumes the entire entered area is plantable. Subtract nonplanting areas first or reduce the result to account for operational space.
How do I choose suitable spacing?
Consider mature crown and root size, species vigor, rootstock, soil, water, training system, and equipment width. Consult local production or forestry guidance for the crop and site.
Are row and tree spacing measured edge to edge?
No, planting spacing is conventionally measured from trunk center to trunk center. Consistent center points make field layout and density calculations reliable.
Why is the result rounded down?
Only whole trees can occupy planting positions, so the calculator reports the conservative whole-number capacity. Real boundaries may require rounding down further.
