Should I use curb weight or race weight?
Use the actual race-ready weight including driver, fuel, and carried equipment. Curb weight alone usually understates the mass accelerated during a pass.
Should I enter wheel or crank horsepower?
Either can support comparisons if used consistently, but the empirical constants may align differently with each basis. Measured wheel horsepower often gives a more conservative picture of power reaching the track.
Why might my actual elapsed time be slower?
The equation assumes effective traction and power delivery. Wheelspin, slow shifts, unsuitable gearing, weather, and aerodynamic drag can all make a real pass slower.
Is trap speed a better horsepower indicator than ET?
Trap speed is generally less dependent on the launch and first sixty feet than elapsed time. It still responds to vehicle drag, weather, gearing, and measurement conditions.
Can I use this estimate for safety certification?
