When is nuchal translucency measured?
NT is generally measured from 11 weeks through 13 weeks and 6 days when crown-rump length is in the accepted range. Measurements outside that window are not interpreted with the same first-trimester references.
What does an increased NT mean?
An increased measurement can be associated with chromosomal or structural conditions, but it is not a diagnosis. Many affected screening results are followed by reassuring additional testing and healthy outcomes.
Does maternal age change the NT measurement?
Maternal age does not directly change the measured thickness. It changes the background probability used when a validated screening program combines NT with other information.
What is NT MoM?
A multiple of the median compares the observed thickness with an expected median at the same gestational stage. A value of 1.0 equals the median, while 2.0 is twice that estimated median.
Can this result diagnose Down syndrome?
No, neither NT alone nor this calculator can diagnose Down syndrome. Diagnostic answers require appropriate testing such as chorionic villus sampling or amniocentesis after professional counseling.
