How deep should driveway gravel be?

Why does the estimate include waste?
Real subgrades are rarely perfectly level and loose aggregate compacts during installation. An allowance reduces the chance of running short because of those field variations.
How many cubic feet are in a cubic yard?
One cubic yard contains twenty-seven cubic feet. The calculator performs that conversion after adding the selected allowance.
Can I convert cubic yards directly to tons?
Only when a suitable bulk density is known. Different gravel products and moisture levels can produce substantially different weights for the same volume.
Should I round the result up?
Usually yes, because suppliers sell in practical load increments. Confirm the product, density, and delivery quantity with the material yard before ordering.
