How to forecast vegetable yield
- Measure the productive growing area and exclude paths or unused sections.
- Enter the planned number of productive plants per square foot.

Where can I find yield per plant?
Your own harvest records provide the strongest estimate. Local extension publications, seed suppliers, and experienced growers can provide a reasonable starting range.
What should the loss percentage include?
Include mortality, pests, disease, weather damage, and produce that will not meet your usable standard. Historical rejected weight divided by gross harvested weight is a useful guide.
Can I calculate several vegetables together?
Calculate each crop separately because density and yield per plant differ. Add the resulting marketable weights only when a combined total is useful.
Does this predict yield for succession planting?
One calculation represents one stand or crop cycle. Run a separate estimate for each succession and then add the harvest forecasts.
Why might actual yield differ?
Weather, cultivar, soil, irrigation, fertility, pests, and harvest timing all affect production. Treat the result as a planning estimate and revise it with observations.
