How is plant density calculated?
The calculator divides one square meter by row spacing times within-row spacing after converting centimeters to meters. It then multiplies that theoretical density by expected establishment.
What establishment percentage should I use?
Use a realistic field value based on seed quality, emergence records, transplant survival, and local conditions. Laboratory germination alone may overstate the final stand.
Does the result include headlands and paths?
Only if they are included in the area you enter. For better accuracy, subtract nonplanted zones or enter the net area of each planted block.
Can I use this for gardens and research plots?
Yes, the same rectangular-spacing formula works for beds, gardens, nurseries, and trial plots. Keep all area and spacing measurements in the displayed units.
Why is the total rounded down?
A field cannot contain a fraction of a plant, so the estimate uses a conservative whole number. Boundary effects may reduce the practical count further.
