How to calculate soil requirements
- Choose whether the area is rectangular or circular.
- Measure and enter the required dimensions in meters.

Frequently asked questions
How much extra soil should I order?
Adding ten to fifteen percent is a common allowance for settlement and small measuring errors. Irregular ground or very loose deliveries may justify a larger contingency.
What soil density should I use?
Use the value supplied with the product whenever possible. If none is available, 1,200 to 1,700 kg/m³ is a broad planning range for topsoil.
Does moisture affect the weight?
Yes, wet soil can be substantially heavier than dry soil with the same volume. Check delivery and vehicle limits against the supplier's actual loaded weight.
How do I measure an irregular garden?
Split it into simple rectangles and circles and calculate each section separately. Add the section volumes together before applying an extra allowance.
Is volume or weight better for ordering?
Most bulk suppliers quote soil by volume, while weight is useful for transport planning. Confirm the seller's unit and convert or round up as required.
