Can watts be converted directly to lux?
No, because watts measure electrical power while lux measure light arriving per unit area. Luminous efficacy and illuminated area are required for a useful estimate.
What luminous efficacy should I use for an LED?
Check the fixture or lamp specification for rated lumens and watts, then divide lumens by watts. Modern products vary widely, so a manufacturer value is more reliable than a generic assumption.
Why does area change the lux result?
One lux equals one lumen per square meter. Spreading the same light output over twice the area cuts average illuminance in half.
Does distance from the lamp matter?
Yes, distance and beam geometry strongly affect illuminance at a particular point. This calculator provides an area-average estimate and does not model the inverse-square law or a fixture's photometric distribution.
Are the calculated lumens delivered lumens?
They are estimated from input watts and efficacy. Actual delivered lumens can be lower because of driver, optical, thermal, aging, and installation losses.
