How to calculate mixed air temperature
- Enter the temperature and humidity ratio for air stream one.
- Enter the dry-air mass flow rate for stream one, using kilograms per second.
- Repeat the entries for air stream two using the same units and measurement basis.

What is the mixed air temperature formula?
Multiply each stream temperature by its dry-air mass flow, add the products, and divide by total flow. This is a weighted average, not a simple average unless the two flow rates are equal.
Why does this calculator use humidity ratio?
Humidity ratio tracks the mass of water vapor relative to dry air and is conserved during dry mixing. Relative humidity is temperature-dependent and cannot be directly averaged.
Can I enter cubic metres per second?
The calculation requires mass flow for a rigorous balance. You may use volumetric flows only as an approximation when both streams have nearly the same density.
Does this calculation include condensation?
No, it assumes all incoming water remains vapor. If the mixed state crosses the saturation boundary, use a full energy balance that includes condensed liquid water.
When should I use a full enthalpy balance?
Use enthalpy for high humidity, large temperature differences, industrial drying, or equipment selection. The weighted-temperature method is best for quick estimates under ordinary HVAC conditions.
