How to estimate a candy route
- Enter the total time available for trick-or-treating.
- Estimate the number of participating houses on an average block.
- Enter a sustainable pace in blocks per hour.
- Add the average candy pieces offered at each house and select Estimate candy haul.

How are houses visited estimated?
The calculator multiplies time by blocks per hour and then by participating houses per block. It rounds partial houses down to a whole stop.
Does walking pace include time at doors?
Yes, use an overall pace that includes walking, waiting, conversations, and breaks. A pure walking speed would overstate the route.
What should I enter for house density?
Count only homes likely to distribute candy on a typical block. Dark or clearly inactive homes should not be included.
Why is the candy total only an estimate?
Participation and candy amounts vary throughout the evening. Weather, lines, and the age of the group can also change the route pace.
Can this calculator optimize a route automatically?
It compares route assumptions but does not map streets or traffic conditions. Choose safe sidewalks and crossings before considering the projected haul.
