Why are there two slant heights?
A non-square rectangular base has two different half-width distances from its center to an edge. Each distance forms a different right triangle with the perpendicular height.
What is the difference between height and slant height?
The height is perpendicular to the base and ends at its center. A face slant height lies on a triangular face and ends at the midpoint of a base edge.
Does lateral area include the base?
No, lateral area includes only the four triangular faces. Total surface area adds the rectangular base.
Why is volume divided by three?
Any pyramid has one third the volume of a prism with the same base area and perpendicular height. The division is a fundamental geometric relationship.
