What is the difference between height and slant height?
Height is perpendicular to the base and reaches its center. Slant height runs along the cone's surface from the rim to the apex.
Does total surface area include the base?
Yes, total surface area adds the circular base to the curved lateral area. For an open cone, use only the lateral area.
Why is cone volume divided by three?
A cone occupies one third of a cylinder with the same base and perpendicular height. This geometric relationship produces the factor of one third in the volume formula.
Can I enter a diameter?
The input expects a radius rather than a diameter. Divide the diameter by two before entering it.
Which units does the calculator use?
The calculator is unit-independent as long as radius and height use the same unit. Areas use that unit squared, and volume uses it cubed.
