About the Yield to Maturity Calculator

Yield to maturity, often shortened to YTM, is the annualized return implied by a bond's market price, coupon payments, face value, and remaining term. It assumes the investor buys the bond at the entered price, receives every scheduled coupon, reinvests coupons at the same yield, and holds the security until it repays its face value at maturity. It is a standard way to compare fixed-income investments with different coupons and prices. The yield to maturity calculator discounts each future cash flow: periodic coupon payments plus the face value paid in the final period. It finds the periodic rate at which the present value of those cash flows equals the market price, then converts that periodic rate to an annualized yield based on the coupon frequency. A bond trading below par generally has a YTM above its coupon rate because the investor also earns a capital gain when face value is repaid. What does yield to maturity include?

Why is YTM different from the coupon rate?

Is YTM guaranteed?
