No. The result is a dimensional comparison, not a guarantee of fit or interchangeability. Use the correctly specified metric socket or wrench whenever possible.
How is the SAE fraction calculated?
Millimeters are divided by exactly 25.4 to obtain decimal inches. The fractional part is then rounded to the selected denominator and reduced.
Which fraction precision should I choose?
Use the denominator shown by the tool set, drawing, or reference chart you are comparing against. Thirty-seconds are a practical general comparison, while sixty-fourths provide finer spacing.
Can this calculator convert thread pitch?
No. Thread pitch and thread form require separate specifications, and close diameters do not make metric and inch threads compatible.
Why is the nearest fraction different from the exact decimal?
Fractional tool sizes occur at fixed intervals, while a converted metric size can fall between them. Rounding selects the closest interval but necessarily introduces a difference.
