About the hoop house calculator

A hoop house calculator provides a preliminary material takeoff for a simple tunnel with semicircular ribs. For that geometry, each hoop is half the circumference of a circle whose diameter equals the house width, so hoop length is pi multiplied by width and divided by two. The hoop count is the structure length divided by spacing, rounded up, plus one end hoop. Multiplying hoop length by count gives the primary rib tubing requirement. The cover estimate multiplies the curved hoop length by the house length and adds the selected allowance. This represents the main roof and side covering over a semicircular tunnel. It does not automatically include closed end walls, roll-up side overlaps, door openings, buried skirt material, repair patches, or specialized fastening details. Those items depend strongly on the design and should be added from drawings or manufacturer instructions. Real hoop houses are not always perfect semicircles.
