It is a stocking-rate expression relating animal numbers to grazing area. It is meaningful only when the grazing period and forage conditions are also known.
Why does the calculator use 2.5 percent of body weight?
That percentage is a common planning estimate for daily dry-matter intake. Actual intake changes with animal class, forage quality, weather, and production stage.
Should forage utilization be 100 percent?
No. Some forage is trampled, rejected, used by other animals, or retained for plant recovery and soil cover. A local grazing recommendation is safer than assuming every kilogram is available.
Can supplemental feed increase capacity?
Supplement can replace some pasture intake when a ration is designed correctly. It does not remove the need to preserve cover, water access, and recovery time, so consult a nutrition or grazing professional.
How often should stocking rate be recalculated?
