How do I find the height of an isosceles triangle?
Split the base in half and apply the Pythagorean theorem to either right triangle. The equal side is the hypotenuse and half the base is the horizontal leg.
How is the area calculated?
The area is one half times the base times the perpendicular height. The calculator first derives the height from the two supplied side lengths.
Why must the base be shorter than twice the side?
The triangle inequality says any side must be shorter than the sum of the other two. If the base equals or exceeds twice the equal side, a nondegenerate triangle cannot close.
Are the two base angles always equal?
Yes, equal sides lie opposite equal angles. The calculator reports that shared base-angle measurement once because both corners have the same value.
Is an equilateral triangle also isosceles?
Yes, under the inclusive definition it has at least two equal sides and is therefore a special isosceles triangle. Its apex and both base angles are each 60 degrees.
