About peptide dose and reconstitution calculations

A peptide dosage calculation connects four separate quantities: body weight, a prescribed amount per kilogram, the mass in a vial, and the volume used to reconstitute that vial. This calculator first multiplies body weight in kilograms by the prescribed micrograms per kilogram. It then converts vial milligrams to micrograms and divides by solvent volume to find concentration. Finally, it divides the prescribed dose by concentration to find an injection volume. For a U-100 insulin syringe, one milliliter corresponds to one hundred marked units. The arithmetic is simple, but errors can be clinically important. Milligrams and micrograms differ by a factor of one thousand. Syringe marks are units of volume in this context, not international units of biological activity. A label stating 5 mg in a vial is not the same as 5 mg per milliliter until the amount of diluent is known. Reconstituting the same vial with a different volume changes concentration and therefore changes the volume required for the same mass dose. Use the calculator only after a licensed prescriber has specified the exact dose and a pharmacist or official product instructions have specified how the product should be prepared. How are milligrams converted to micrograms?

One milligram equals one thousand micrograms. The calculator multiplies vial milligrams by one thousand before finding concentration.

What do U-100 syringe units mean?

A U-100 scale has one hundred marked units per milliliter, so 0.08 mL is eight units. This volume conversion does not apply to syringes with another scale.

Can I change the amount of reconstitution solvent?

Only follow the volume and diluent specified by a pharmacist or official instructions. Changing solvent volume changes concentration and can cause a dosing error.
