About the TDS Interest Calculator

Tax deducted at source, commonly called TDS, is an amount a payer withholds before paying certain income. For an interest payment, the amount credited to an account can therefore be lower than the gross interest the deposit, bond, or other arrangement earned. The TDS interest calculator separates the three figures needed for a straightforward planning view: gross simple interest, the TDS deduction, and net interest after withholding. It can help a saver check a bank calculation, estimate cash received from an interest-bearing balance, or understand why a certificate and an account credit may show different amounts. Enter principal, an annual interest rate, a period, and the TDS rate. If gross interest is left blank, the TDS interest calculator models simple interest as principal multiplied by annual rate multiplied by the period in years. Select months when the period is not a full year; months are converted to years by dividing by twelve. If the payer's gross interest figure is known, enter it directly. That amount overrides the simple-interest estimate, so the TDS calculation can be checked without assuming how interest was compounded, credited, or rounded. TDS deducted is gross interest multiplied by the stated TDS rate, and net interest is gross interest less that deduction. The displayed deduction is withholding, not necessarily final tax liability. In India, the applicable rate, threshold, certificate treatment, PAN status, declaration rules, resident status, and type of income can affect TDS. A taxpayer's final liability depends on total income, deductions, tax regime, credits, return filing, and current law. A refund may be possible when withholding exceeds final liability, while additional tax can be due when it does not. The calculator does not decide whether TDS applies or whether a specific rate is correct. Use the currency selector only to format the scenario; it does not convert money. Confirm the gross interest and TDS on the payer's advice, Form 16A, annual information statement, or account record. The TDS interest calculator excludes compounding unless a known gross amount is entered, as well as tax slabs, cess, surcharges, penalties, and refunds. It is an educational calculation rather than tax advice or a substitute for current official guidance.

TDS interest calculator FAQ

Is TDS the same as final income tax?

No. TDS is withholding by the payer. Final tax liability depends on a taxpayer's total income, deductions, tax regime, credits, and return.

Why can I enter known gross interest?

A payer may compound interest or use a crediting convention different from simple interest. A known gross amount lets you calculate the deduction without modeling that method.

Does the currency selector convert Indian rupees and dollars?

No. It changes only the display format. It does not perform exchange-rate conversion or identify the applicable tax jurisdiction, so rupee and dollar scenarios stay in the currency you selected.

Can this determine whether TDS must be deducted?

No. Eligibility, thresholds, declarations, account type, resident status, and current law determine whether withholding applies and at what rate. Confirm those facts with the payer or current official guidance.
