About the Philippines Income Tax Calculator
Philippines individual income tax after the TRAIN law uses progressive brackets with a ₱250,000 zero band. Employees usually see withholding on Form 2316, but the annual true-up still depends on taxable income after deductions and on tax already paid. The Philippines income tax calculator applies the 2024-style brackets to income minus deductions and personal exemptions, then subtracts withholding to show an amount due or a refund.
Taxable income is max(0, annual income − deductions − personal exemptions). Tax is 0 up to ₱250,000; 15% of the excess up to ₱400,000; ₱22,500 plus 20% from ₱400,000 to ₱800,000; ₱102,500 plus 25% to ₱2,000,000; ₱402,500 plus 30% to ₱8,000,000; and ₱2,202,500 plus 35% above. Filing status is recorded and does not change the brackets in this model. Tax due or refund is tax minus withholding already paid.
₱500,000 of taxable income produces ₱42,500 of tax (₱22,500 + 20% of ₱100,000). ₱600,000 income minus ₱50,000 deductions with ₱25,000 withheld leaves ₱550,000 taxable, ₱52,500 of tax, and ₱27,500 still due. High earners crossing ₱800,000 move into the 25% marginal band quickly, which is why a 13th-month bonus can change the annual result more than a monthly payslip suggests.
OSD versus itemized deductions, 13th-month and other TRAIN exemptions, MCIT, and graduated versus 8% optional tax for mixed-income earners are not fully modeled. Personal exemptions in current law are limited compared with older NIRC amounts, so do not enter outdated ₱50,000 personal and additional exemption stacks without checking BIR rules. Confirm with a BIR-registered practitioner and your alphalist before filing.
Employees should reconcile the due-or-refund line with Form 2316 withholding and with any expanded withholding on bonuses. If the Philippines income tax calculator shows a large amount due, the usual causes are under-withholding, taxable allowances left in gross income, or deductions that payroll never saw. If it shows a refund, do not spend it until BIR processing is confirmed. Self-employed filers should remember that percentage tax or 8% optional tax can replace this graduated path entirely.

Philippines Income Tax Calculator FAQ
Is income below ₱250,000 tax-free?
Yes in this graduated schedule. Taxable income up to ₱250,000 produces zero income tax, though other taxes or contributions may still apply.
Does filing status change the brackets?
Not in this planning model. Single and married use the same TRAIN rates. Status remains on the form for your scenario notes.
What does a negative tax due mean?
If withholding exceeds computed tax, the due-or-refund line is negative and represents a potential refund. Confirm it through BIR filing and verification before treating the cash as available.
Are 13th-month pay and SSS contributions deducted automatically?
No. Put exempt or deductible amounts in the deductions box when they reduce taxable compensation under current BIR rules.
Is the 8% optional tax included?
No. The estimate is the graduated individual schedule only. Self-employed taxpayers comparing 8% versus graduated rates need a separate computation.
