About the EPF Calculator

An Employee Provident Fund calculator estimates how regular payroll contributions may grow into a retirement balance. It combines the amount deducted from an employee’s salary with the employer contribution and compounds both amounts over the years remaining until retirement. The projection is useful for employees comparing contribution rates, evaluating a voluntary increase, or checking whether a current EPF balance is on track for a long-term savings goal. It also separates contributions from investment growth, which makes the source of the final balance easier to understand. The calculation begins with monthly salary. The employee rate and employer rate are applied separately, then added to obtain the combined monthly deposit. The calculator treats deposits as an ordinary monthly annuity, meaning each new contribution earns returns from the end of its deposit month onward. Existing savings compound for the full projection period. With a monthly rate r and n months, the future value is existing balance × (1 + r)^n + monthly contribution × ((1 + r)^n - 1) ÷ r. When the assumed return is zero, the projection simply adds all future contributions to the existing balance. The result card shows the monthly combined contribution, lifetime employee and employer deposits, total deposits, estimated investment growth, and projected retirement balance. These values answer different planning questions. Monthly contribution indicates the immediate payroll commitment. Total employee contributions show how much comes from personal salary, while total employer contributions reveal the value of the workplace benefit. Investment growth is the projected balance above the opening balance and direct deposits; it highlights the impact of time and compounding rather than guaranteed profit. Use the estimate to compare retirement ages, contribution percentages, and return assumptions. A younger employee can test the advantage of starting early, while a worker nearing retirement can see whether a higher contribution rate materially changes the outcome. Human-resources teams may also use a projection to explain matching benefits. For a realistic comparison, keep salary and rates on the same monthly basis and enter percentages as ordinary numbers, such as 12 for 12 percent. An EPF projection is not a promise of future performance. Actual rules differ by country and plan, and they may limit eligible salary, divide employer deposits among pension accounts, change annual credited rates, or apply taxes and withdrawal restrictions. This simplified model assumes a constant salary, fixed monthly contributions, and a steady annual return. It does not model salary growth, contribution caps, fees, pauses, or inflation.
