Months and years are calendar-based units used to describe ages, terms, schedules, and durations. For general duration conversion, one year contains twelve months. Therefore, decimal years equal the number of months divided by 12. For that reason, a month count alone cannot determine an exact number of elapsed days unless the starting date and ending date are known. Only nonnegative durations are accepted because the tool describes elapsed or planned time. Results use standard browser arithmetic and show up to ten decimal places without unnecessary trailing zeros. A repeating decimal such as one month divided by twelve must be rounded for display. The underlying conversion remains based on twelve months per year. When a policy defines a year differently, such as a 360-day financial year or a specific number of working days, follow that policy rather than substituting this general calendar-unit conversion.
