How does the universal unit converter calculate results?
Most measurements are normalized through a base unit using standardized factors. Temperature uses dedicated formulas because its scales have different zero points.
Can I convert between unrelated measurement categories?
No, only units measuring the same physical quantity can be converted directly. The category selection keeps source and destination units compatible.
Which type of gallon does the converter use?
The volume category uses the US liquid gallon, equal to exactly 3.785411784 liters. It does not use the larger imperial gallon.
Why is my result shown with several decimal places?
Some unit ratios do not produce a short terminating decimal. The calculator retains useful precision while removing unnecessary trailing zeros.
Are the conversion factors exact?
Defined relationships such as feet to meters are exact, while some conventional physical-unit factors are standardized approximations. The displayed precision is suitable for common calculations, but regulated work should follow its governing standard.
